As a young man, Benedict fled Rome to become a monk. Many others followed him, and he developed the Rule of Saint Benedict to give them a balanced approach to a life of prayer and work. His holiness led to many miracles. One day, when a jealous man gave him poisoned bread, a raven flew away with the loaf! Saint Benedict's greatest contribution to history - monastic life as we know it - changed the world forever.
