Elijah was a prophet who boldly called Israel back to faith in God during a time of widespread idolatry. In moments of isolation, Elijah experienced God’s presence in both dramatic and quiet ways—miraculously fed by ravens in the wilderness and sustained by a gentle whisper on Mount Horeb. From his triumph over the prophets of Baal to his ascent into heaven in a chariot of fire, Elijah’s life bore witness to the strength and nearness of God.
