Saint Genevieve

Paris

In the year 430, the bishop, Saint Germanus, saw 7 year old Saint Genevieve while preaching near Paris. Foreseeing her future holiness, he singled her out. She asked him if she could consecrate herself to Jesus. The bishop immediately took her to a church and consecrated her to God.

When her parents died, she moved to Paris. Saint Genevieve lived a life of prayer and fasting. She was blessed with visions of angels and saints. She took care of the poor and sick, and even had the gift of prophecy.

Saint Genevieve was the instrument of God’s grace in performing many miracles and protecting Paris from war and famine. For example, in 451, Attila the Hun approached the city. Saint Genevieve led the Parisians in prayer and fasting, and miraculously, the army turned away.

Saint Genevieve is the patron saint of Paris. Saint Genevieve had an intense love for God even at a very young age. We can ask Saint Genevieve to help us increase our love for God and to help us know His will for us.
