Saint Photina

Are you familiar with the gospel story of the woman at the well? Tradition tells us that her name was Photina. She was a Samaritan and Jesus asked her for a drink of water. He told her of the living water and he declared that he was the Messiah when he said, “I am He.”

Tradition also says that Saint Photina left the well and proclaimed Jesus’s message until she was imprisoned and martyred. Some reports say that she converted the Emperor Nero’s daughter and 100 of her servants.

Saint Photina experienced the truth and compassion of Jesus first-hand. Today, she is a beloved saint of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Ask Saint Photina to help you to recognize and encounter Jesus in your life. Jesus wants to know you as he knew Saint Photina.
