Saint Maurice of Aganaum, born in the 3rd century, was a general in the Roman army. He and his legion of African soldiers were ordered to put down a rebellion against the empire. When Saint Maurice discovered the rebels were Christians, he and his men refused to fight their fellow Christians. They also refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods.

For this, the Emperor Maximian had Saint Maurice and nearly all of 6,000 men executed. There is no doubt that Saint Maurice had incredible leadership skills, courage, and faith to lead his soldiers to martyrdom. He is the patron saint of parts of France and Switzerland, as well as swordsmiths, soldiers, armies, and infantrymen. Let us ask Saint Maurice to help us to be holy, courageous, faithful, soldiers of Christ.
